QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, a Commercial Driver’s License with minimum B class with P and S endorsements, and air brake endorsement are required

 

REPORTS TO: TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Successfully complete the School Bus Driver training program and courses required by the State and local Boards of Education.                                                                                                                        
  2. Operate school buses in a safe and efficient manner under all types of weather conditions including, but not limited to sun, fog, rain, sleet, snow, and ice.                                                                                                                        
  3. Conduct thorough pre-and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its special equipment.                                                                                                                         
  4. Maintain orderly conduct of student passengers. Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver.                                                                                                                        
  5. Be personally responsible in the performance of your duties for the observance of all State traffic laws and regulations of the Department of Public Safety governing the operation of school buses in the state of Georgia.                                                                                                                        
  6. Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required by the local school system.
  7. Work with school principals in maintaining the orderly conduct of the children who ride the bus.                                                                                                                        
  8. Complete legible and accurate reports.                                                                                                                        
  9. Provide maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading.                                                                                                                        
  10. Clean and service the vehicle to include sweeping, washing, installation of fuel, oil, and coolant, etc., as required by the local school system.                                                                                                                        
  11. Maintain routes and schedules planned by the local school system.                                                                                                                        
  12. Report any hazards along the existing route to the appropriate school official.                                                                                                                        
  13. Adhere to all policies of the Georgia State Board of Education and of the Toombs County Board of Education.                                                                                                                        
  14. Adhere to all school transportation regulations of the Georgia State Department of Education and the Toombs County Board of Education.                                                                                                                        
  15. Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics.                                                                                                                        
  16. Shall perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the local school system.
